La visita al complesso delle Grotte di Toirano è stata di notevole interesse non solo per chi le aveva già visitate varie volte per notare le migliorie e le molte novità ma in particalare per chi, la prima volta, si addentrava in tale complesso ipogeo dal percorso affascinante: si ammirano con molta emezione le impronte dell’uomo del Paleolitoco per proseguire su un percorso scavato in una grandiosa colata di alabastro, all’interno di imponenti ambienti ricchi di concrezioni mammellonari e terminare nella Grotta di Santa Lucia dalle pareti ricche di formazioni di sottili cristalli di aragonite, con disposizioni a "fiore", anche enormi stalattiti sono ricoperte da cristalli di aragonite.
Dopo queste piacevoli note nelle Grotte di Toirano, si è riunita la assemblea che ha ricevuto la visita del sindaco di Toirano signor Silavo Tabò che ha porto i saluti dell’amministrazione comunale ed un augurio per l’associazione di incrementare i contatti con le varie istituzioni interessate al turismo, in generale, ed in particolare al turismo ipogeo.
Considerato che all’ordine del giorno della assemblea c’era il promemoria per l’organizzazione a carattere nazionale della manifestazione “Adotta un pipistrello” per la sensibilizzazione della opinione pubblica sulla protezione dei pipistrelli, il signor Panizza, che era stato eletto presidente dell’assemblea, ha riferito che le Grotte di Toirano hanno in cantiere vari progetti sui chirotteri. Infatti hanno in corso un programma con una naturalista esperta di chirotteri per svolgere delle indagini sulla presenza e sulla distribuzione della chirotterofauna con sistemi a ultrasuoni, i cosiddetti bat-detector, per capire quali tipologie siano presenti e come tutelarle con appositi siti rifugio. E’ un percorso di tutela che la amministrazione della Grotta intende incrementare nel tempo, la relazione tecnica e i siti rifugio andranno a costituire materia per giornate divulgative anche con visite guidate notturne.
Altri punti importanti all’ordine del giorno: la discussione della bozza del protocollo A.G.T.I.-Città delle Grotte, il rinnovo del Consiglio direttivo e della Presidenza, nonché la illustrazione del INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS on “SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH IN SHOW CAVES” che si terrà in settembre 2012 presso il Parco delle grotte di San Canziano, in Slovenia, che prevede la partecipazione di esperti e studiosi provenienti da vari stati europei ed extraeuropei per esporre, analizzare i programmi di ricerca scientifica nelle grotte turistiche europee ed extra-europee.

Topics and goals
The Congress will focus on scientific research in show caves. Show caves are a special underground environment with the natural processes characteristic of caves, but with additional human impacts that provide significant common problems and research opportunities. Usually, their infrastructure offers scientists better conditions for research because the many pathways as well as electrical and optical illumination enable easier access and charging of scientific instruments.
Show caves are convenient for studying both natural processes and the human impact. The direct human impact is considerably higher in show caves with several hundred thousand visitors per year or in small passages open to the public. What is the human impact, how is it measured, what approaches are available to minimise it – these are just a few questions to be considered. Human impact on cave biodiversity and its consequences for the cave environment, including lampenflora, will also be discussed. The goals of the meeting are to present and share different research approaches in show caves and to discuss the results and measures needed to improve the management of show caves.
We invite show cave managers, scientists who are involved in research in show caves and other interested experts to participate.
